Legend is a concise explanation of the symbols used in a chart, diagram, drawing, map, table, etc. A legend is usually conspicuously displayed in a tabular form.

Line callouts provide a background for text that can be linked by a line to an anchor point. The symbols used for the leader line, accent bar, and border can be changed to suit the specific needs of the application for the callout.

Node is a point in a network or diagram at which lines or pathways intersect or branch.

Task is the smallest identifiable and essential piece of a job that serves as a unit of work, and as a means of differentiating between the various components of a project.

Project is a planned set of interrelated tasks to be executed over a fixed period and within certain cost and other limitations.

Arrows show what's called "flow of control" in computer science. An arrow coming from one symbol and ending at another symbol signifies flow passes to the symbol the arrow points to.

How to Use PERT Chart Symbols

Open PERT Chart Shapes Library

Do the followings to open and use this group of symbols.

  • Open Edraw.
  • Choose Project Management category under Available Templates.
  • Double click the icon of PERT Chart in the Templates window.
  • Two groups of shapes open along with PERT Chart Shapes and a blank canvas, titled as Arrow Shapes and Callouts. If you don't need them, click the Close button to the right of each title.
  • PERT Chart Shape

    If you are drawing other kinds of diagrams and don't want to restart Edraw, you can open PERT Chart shapes in another way.

  • Click Libraries button on the top left corner of library panel.
  • Scroll down to rest the cursor over the title: Project Management to show its drop down menu.
  • Click PERT Chart Shapes.
  • Open PERT Chart Shape

    Adjust PERT Chart Shapes

  • Drag the shape needed onto the canvas.
  • The shape is selected by default with green selection handles surrounding it.
  • Drag the handles at corner to adjust size while remaining the same aspect ratio.
  • Drag the left and right handles to change shape width.
  • Drag the top and bottom handles to change shape height.
  • The handle dragged turns orange.
