It's convenient to create a mind map with MindMaster software instantly. Read this page to learn how to insert topics into a map map with MindMaster. Follow these steps to learn about different types of topics and the operation skills.

Topic Types

MindMaster has four topic kinds:

  • Main Idea: A mind map has one central topic. It appears automatically as default.
  • Main Topic: Main topics are the major ideas that form your the framework of your map.
  • Subtopic: Subtopics branch off the main topics and main floating topics.
  • Floating Topic: Floating topics have no connection lines with your existing topics. It can be positioned on the map freely.

Add Main Topic

You can add topics in several ways:

  1. Press Enter key on the keyboard to quickly add main topic.
  2. Use Floating button on the Main Idea shape.
  3. Add floating button

  4. Click Insert button on the Home tab.
  5. Insert a Topic from Home Tab

    Tips:

    Under Insert button there are 3 options:

    • Insert Topic (Enter): Insert a topic after a selected topic.
    • Insert Topic Before (Shift + Enter): Insert a topic before a selected topic.
    • Insert Parent Topic (Shift + Insert): Insert a parent topic for a selected topic.
  6. Use Multiple Topics button. (Ctrl+Shift+M)
  7. If you want to add more than one Main Topic shapes at a time, use Multiple Topics button.

  • Click Multiple Topics button on the Home tab.
  • From the pop-up dialogue, type topic text then press enter for each new topic.
  • Click OK.

Add Subtopic


(Insert; Ctrl+Enter)

There are 3 ways to add subtopics:

  1. Press Insert key or Ctrl + Enter key on the keyboard.
  2. Use Floating Button.
    • Select a Main Topic.
    • Click the floating button Floating button to add subtopic.
    • Click more times to add more subtopics.
  3. Click Insert Subtopic button on Home tab.
  4. Use Multiple Topics button.

  5. The procedure is to follow the previous steps of adding multiple topics.

Insert Floating Topic

(Ctrl+Shift+F)

When you want to add an idea or piece of information to a mind map, but aren't quite sure where it fits in the hierarchy of topics or subtopics, you can insert a Floating Topic.

  • Click Floating Topic button on the Home tab, or press Ctrl+Shift+F to add a floating topic.
  • Floating Topic

Tips:

You can convert any Main Topic or Subtopic to a Floating Topic in mind map.

  • Drag the topic away from its parent topic.
  • Drop it on an empty place on the map.

Insert Multiple Topics

(Ctrl+Shift+M)

If you want to add multiple topics together at once, use Add Multiple Topics.

  • Click Multiple Topics button on the Home tab.
  • From the pop-up dialogue, type topic text and then press Enter for each new topic.
  • Click OK.
